Training Program Code: DG-SHP
Training Method: Classroom (Instructor Led)
Duration: Initial Minimum 5 Days (30 Hours), Recurrent Minimum 4 Days (18 Hours)
Prerequisite: (For Initial)-No, (For recurrent)- valid previous initial/ recurrent certification (of the same job function)
Target Group: Cargo agents, Consolidators, Shippers, Freight Forwarders Staff, Airlines Engineering Stores Personnel, Manufacturers and exporters of dangerous goods or products contain dangerous
goods.
Regulatory Requirements: This program is in compliance with the
  • CAR 92.205 – CBTA Approach
  • CAR 92.455 – Certification Requirements for Freight Forwarders & Agents (Min 2 staff)
  • CAR 92 Appendix B – Minimum Required Training Schedule

Objectives:

Aber thorough study and use of this training workbook participants shall be able to:

  • Correctly apply the provisions of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations;
  • Apply the legal aspects involved;
  • Differentiate between shipper’s and operator’s responsibilities;
  • Identify dangerous goods which are:
  • — forbidden for air transport;
  • — permitted as cargo under the Regulations;
  • — excepted from the Regulations, all or in part.
  • Identify the nine classes of dangerous goods by their principle criteria;
  • Navigate through the alphabetical List of Dangerous Goods and apply the information it
    contains;
  • Apply the general packing requirements and the specific packing instructions to verify that
    they have been followed;
  • Use correct packaging which complies with the limitations of the specification indicated on the
    package;
  • Properly mark and label a package containing dangerous goods;
  • Complete a Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods (Including Class 7) in compliance with
    the regulations:
  • Enter the appropriate information correctly on the Air Waybill;
  • Recognize and apply the appropriate State and/or operator variations;
  • Follow general emergency procedures when a damaged or leaking package is discovered.

  • Dangerous goods applicability
  • Understanding the general limitations
  • Identifying different roles and responsibilities
  • Understanding the importance of classification & packaging
  • Understanding hazard communication
  • Familiarizing with basic emergency response
CU 2 – Preparing dangerous goods shipments | Proficiency Level: 3
  • Assess packing options including quantity limitations
  • Apply packing requirements.
  • Apply marks and labels
  • Assess use of overpack
  • Prepare documentation
CU 7 – Collecting safety data: (additional) | Proficiency Level: 2
  • Report dangerous goods incidents/ accidents
  • Report undeclared/mis declared dangerous goods.
  • Report dangerous goods occurrences
